Have Islamic jihadists hijacked a peaceful religion? Answer: No. Violence is an integral part of Islam. Jihad is Islamic gospel. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either ignorant or lying. Here is a sample of the dozens of calls to violence in the Quran:

• Take not from among them friends until they flee in the way of Allah. But if they turn back, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them, and take not from among them a friend or a helper. (Sura 4:89)
• Allah hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their goods and persons than to those who sit (at home). (Sura 4:95)
• Relent not in pursuit of the enemy. (Sura 4:104)
• You who believe, do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends! (Sura 5:51)
• I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them. (Sura 8:12)
• Prophet! Exhort the believers to fight. If there be of you twenty steadfast they shall overcome two hundred, and if there be of you a hundred (steadfast) they shall overcome a thousand of those who disbelieve, because they (the disbelievers) are a folk without intelligence. (Sura 8:65)
• Fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war). (Sura 9:5)
• Fight them. Allah will punish them by your hands and bring them to disgrace, and assist you against them and heal the hearts of a believing people. (Sura 9:14)
• Fight those who do not believe in Allah. (Sura 9:29)
• Ye who believe! Fight those of the disbelievers who are near to you, and let them find harshness in you. (Sura 9:123)
• These are two adversaries who dispute about their Lord; then (as to) those who disbelieve, for them are cut out garments of fire, boiling water shall be poured over their heads. (Sura 22:19)
• Surely Allah loves those who fight in His way. (Sura 61:4)

So, on what do those who say that Islam is a peaceful religion base their view? There are only about three or so passages that they attempt to use to “prove” Islam is a peaceful:

• Let there be no compulsion in religion. (Sura 2:256)
• Argue not with the People of the Scripture [Jews and Christians] unless it be in (a way) that is better. (Sura 29:46)
• Repel evil with what is better. (Sura 41:34)

There is nothing in the Quran about loving your enemy, like there is in the Bible. You be the judge. If you are looking for an overarching message from the Quran, what message will you receive? Reasons the Market Might Go Higher:

• The Fed is keeping interest rates so low that it is forcing investors to buy stocks (and real estate) to try to get a return on their money. The Fed has said that this will continue until the unemployment rate gets to around 6.5%, which could be many months from now in the best scenario. This intervention into the markets could theoretically overwhelm the negatives and propel the market to higher and higher levels.

• Price earnings ratios are only slightly above normal: currently Dow 16, S&P 18. The historical average is in the neighborhood of 14. But they have been well into the 20′s on occasion.

• The economy is making progress, as evidenced by the unemployment rate inching lower, now 7.6%.

• There can be found healthy companies selling at large discounts to their all time highs, suggesting that we are not in a condition of over-enthusiasm or a “bubble.” Such stocks include Apache (APA, 74), Apple (AAPL, 424), Bank of America (BAC, 12), Caterpillar (CAT, 84), Cisco (CSCO, 20), Intel (INTC, 21), Microsoft (MSFT, 28), Newmont Mining (NEM, 39), Potash (POT, 39), Transocean (RIG, 51).

Reasons the Market Might Drop:

• We are 49 months into this bull market, which began in March of 2009. The average bull market since 1900 has been 31 months long. The Dow is up 128% (over this same 49 month period), compared to an average historical bull market gain of 90%. We are long in the tooth by historical averages. See the chart below.

• We are in a “secular” (long term) bear market which began in January of 2000. There have been two other secular bear markets in the last one hundred years, one began in 1929, the other in 1968. Each of these contained three “cyclical” (shorter term) bear market periods. So far we have had two in this cycle (2000-2002 and 2007-2009), so a third would be normal before the final bottom of the secular down trend.

• It would be normal for p/e ratios to sink to under 10 at the end of a secular bear market.

• Based on various surveys, nearly two-thirds of investors are optimistic. This usually marks an impending temporary top if not a major top. When investors are this optimistic, any change in psychology has to be negative.

• The May to November period is seasonally weak for the stock market.

• While corporations are generally financially healthy, and household debt has improved in the last five years, both consumers and governments have more debt than they can reasonably afford. • A “black swan” event.  This is the term for an unforeseen shock from outside of the economy—such as war, death of an important politician, natural disaster, etc.

• The problems in Europe are not over. There will likely be defaults and runs on banks. Cypress is a warning shot across the bow. Governments across the globe are completely irresponsible, and we have passed the point that luck or normal economic growth will bail them out.

Conclusion: While nobody knows just when this party will end, it is likely to end badly. There simply is no growth driver in the economy that is strong enough to propel us through the worldwide debt problems. Just as in previous boom-bust cycles which were aggravated by federal government policy, innocent people are being forced into risky assets—and in time they will become victims. The government cannot create wealth out of thin air. The clash between liberal political policies and real world economics is likely to soon come to a head.

First, illegality must be punished appropriately. Second, where the laws are detrimental, we must change them. And, third, we should make a practical distinction between those who are here only to work, and those who are here to work and to integrate into American society. Here is my plan.

The focus should be on how one obtains a Work Visa. Non U.S. citizens could apply for a Work Visa whether they reside in a foreign country or are already in America illegally—no distinction in the application process. (Realistically, why should the place of residence be an impediment to application?) Aliens residing in the U.S. have no priority over applicants from outside the U.S. However, they can be penalized otherwise.

To receive the Work Visa, one must meet certain basic criteria of literacy and a clean record. Those who apply for the Work Visa as illegal aliens residing in the U.S. and are accepted would pay a tax penalty over several years, probably as an income tax penalty. So they do not get off scott free as in an amnesty program. It would be to their benefit to file the application from outside of the U.S. Further, they would be paying into the system rather than merely sucking benefits from the system. All those who have a Work Visa will also have a long term path to citizenship if they work toward that goal.

This is not amnesty and enforcement would be rigorous. Employers who hire people who do not have the Work Visa are fined. Those workers caught here who have not at least filed the application for the Work Visa can be deported and perhaps become subject to penalties in other ways, including jail time. Those people caught here without having filed an application for the Work Visa are no longer eligible to apply.

Undocumented workers who have filed the paperwork to get into the system would then be documented and trackable to be sure that they are virtuous. To file the application no requirement of literacy is necessary, but to receive the Work Visa they must have a minimum level of English proficiency. If they do not have an adequate education and English skills, they would be required to go to night school at their own expense. (Private institutions might fund this education.) This system therefore moves these people along into our society or discriminates against them if they do not participate in the path to integrate fully.

Other important aspects of the plan:

• Citizenship is no longer automatically conferred upon children born in the U.S. to non-citizen parents. (This might require a constitutional amendment.)
• These residents cannot obtain a driver’s license unless they have a Work Visa.
• Illegal aliens do not qualify for taxpayer funded social services.
• Hospitals are not required to give care to non-citizens.
• A fence along the southern U.S. border should be built.
• Applicants would be accepted only from approved countries that provide us necessary information about the candidates.

Let me give you an example of a man I know. He was brought here by his parents when he was 9 years old. He graduated from high school with good marks. He married an American girl and they have 3 kids. He would like to go into the dental field but because of his undocumented status his tuition would be higher than he can afford. He loves America and would like to become a citizen but he is stuck in no-man’s land. This is the kind of person we want here. But the current system has shut him off.

He has a couple of brothers who have not progressed as my friend has. They really do not want to assimilate into American society. Under my plan, they would either have to get on the path that takes them into the system or be deported to Mexico.

My plan may not satisfy everybody. Details would have to be worked out. But it comes to grip with reality. It honors the law. It is faithful to our founding concepts and our natural instincts of compassion.

There are several minor variants of the pamphlet in circulation, but the most commonly accepted version appears below:

This weekend we attended the annual Texas Heroes Day in LaGrange, Texas. There is a park high on a hillside, with a beautiful towering monument commemorating heroes that even most Texans have long forgotten. Here is Off Grid Blogger’s short version of the story. (Off Grid Blogger is choking up a bit as he writes this incredible story.)

In 1842, years after the 1836 Battle of San Jacinto in which Texas gained its freedom from Mexico, Mexican soldiers again invaded the independent Republic of Texas. (Texas was a separate nation from 1836 to 1845.) The Texians (that is the original term) suffered a devastating defeat at what is known as the Dawson Massacre near San Antonio. But the Texans managed to chase the Mexican army back across the Rio Grande River and engaged the Mexicans. Again the Texans failed and many were captured.

The captured Texans were marched to central Mexico and imprisoned there. It was later decreed that every tenth man would be executed. One hundred and seventy-six beans were placed in a jar. Seventeen of the beans were black. Each prisoner had to reach in and select a bean. Those who pulled out a black bean were to be executed. The doomed men were unshackled from their companions, placed in a separate courtyard, and shot at dusk on March 25, 1843.

Eventually the survivors were released, and many made it back to Texas. The men killed at Dawson’s Massacre and at the Black Bean Execution are now buried at the LaGrange monument. Here are the names of the 17 men murdered at the Mexican prison:

The liberal agenda has as its center piece the twin noble goals of compassion and fairness. Christians would agree with these goals. But the average American who considers himself a liberal is often unaware of the end result, when liberalism is implemented as a political philosophy. These noble goals fade into a deceptive illusion.

The DIRTY LITTLE SECRET OF LIBERALISM is that behind its respectable front is the fact that liberal policies actually lead to the opposite of compassion and fairness! Consider the evidence. America has been fighting the War on Poverty for over 40 years. As of 2012 (under Democrat control of Washington) we have more people on food stamps than ever before! Only the most naive would fail to see the irony of the association with (a) the march into government interference into our lives with (b) this astounding moral failure. There must be an explanation.

The evidence suggests that the utopian perfectibility that liberalism seeks is ultimately detrimental to society—indeed, not even possible by government edict or by any human effort. People holding to these utopian ideals are deceived in thinking they are working for good. We argue that the left’s banner upon which they claim legitimacy—that they are compassionate—is a false diversion. A just society will make provisions for those in need. But the bureaucratic welfare state, while well-intentioned, institutionalizes indolence, dependency, and poverty—and is actually immoral.

The practical reality of liberal politics is the diminishment of institutions that promote true compassion and fairness—including the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, federalism, the Rule of Law, natural law, and traditional western values—all of which have their roots in Biblical Christianity. Biblical Christianity becomes the ultimate target of most left-wing elements of the liberal elite, and they have been successful in diminishing it in recent decades. There is an undeniable thread of atheism within liberalism.

Arguably, the unstated goals of the liberal elite political machine are the unchristian values of tyranny and cronyism—ultimately the obliteration of anything that gets in the way of their lust for power. We are concerned that elements of this may be behind Barack Hussein Obama’s historical 2008 statement about “fundamentally transforming America.”

Liberal politics by its nature selectively favors groups of Americans over others, separating people by race, income, or political affiliation. Is it purely coincidence that even after having elected a black President that we hear more about racism than any time in recent memory? But racism is not the only dividing focus of liberalism. Liberalism culls identifiable groups for mutual support including union bosses, abortionists, bankrupting solar executives, or guilt-ridden movie stars. The obvious result of the welfare state is not virtuous charity; rather it is theft from one group to benefit another group to buy political votes. Too often the recipients of income redistribution are not the poor but bureaucrats and political cronies.

Its cronyism is divisive, promoting envy and covetousness between groups of people. Liberalism promotes offenses against the Eighth Commandment (theft) by its forced redistribution of wealth as well as against the Tenth Commandment (covetousness). Liberalism fosters cultural divisiveness as once the first divisions become apparent other groups clamour for their share! Contray to what liberal Christians think, there is no biblical mandate for government welfare. The Good Samaritan did not call for Caesar’s help with the man at the roadside.

Reckless government spending is seldom an impediment to leftist  political aims. The result is a government run amuck. We recall Nancy Pelosi’s incredibly disgusting statement about ObamaCare: “We have to pass our bill so that you can find out what is in it.”

Benjamin Franklin warned Americans to beware of trading our liberty for a  little illusory security. Instead of a hand up, liberalism offers us a hand out. The alluring deception is that a handout may  indeed be a great benefit to one person, but the same handout  is an  albatross of dependency for someone else—and an overall disaster for  society. As put by Paul Ryan, liberalism leads us to “a country where everything is free but us.”

While there are legitimate beneficiaries in need of assistance, we must ask: Who is really “legitimate” and who should be the provider of benefits? The federal bureaucracy too often doles out rewards arbitrarily and inefficiently. Should we re-examine our support for a system in which young men in baggy pants with their hats on backwards can sit in front of a TV all day? And what about the single moms around town that these studs impregnated? Is their future determined and limited by food stamps, WIC and a welfare check as a way of life? How is that freedom? How compassionate is it really? This dignity-robbing sub-culture is instituted and sustained by federal government liberal ideology!

Liberal policies reward failure, so of course we get more of it. The result is a pessimistic society, always seeking the victim and punishing the successful. The liberal culture, as put by former Arkansas governor and Baptist preacher Mike Huckabee, is one of “feed me, lead me, and bleed me.” The true American spirit encourages initiative, personal responsibility, and the optimism of a limitless horizon—rather than blame, grievance, and entitlement.

History proves that liberalism’s march toward utopian statism ultimately will find nothing sacred, not even life itself. Thus liberalism is the least likely system to honor the inherent worth of the individual—and the most likely to harm the most vulnerable in society such as the expendable elderly and the innocent unborn. Liberalism’s profession of tolerance is hypocritical, as liberals certainly seldom tolerate opposition to their errant views. Indeed, this hypocritical intolerance is so severe that it falls into the category of radical hatred, evidenced by the continuous barrage of untruthful ad hominem attacks on those who question them. While liberals may be moral and well-intentioned in their own lives, their views are not consistent with what is good. In actuality they are working to tear down or distort just about everything that is good and elevate what is evil—including in art, music, culture, business, politics, science, sexuality, education, truth, beauty, justice, morality, and logic. So ironically liberalism is neither moral, compassionate, tolerant, nor effective.

Liberalism has everything turned on its head. It punishes achievement but rewards failure. Liberal thought is often opposed to a moral authority above itself, promotes the silliness of moral relativism, and is thus opposed to unalienable rights and obligations from God. It elevates the creation above the Creator and many times places earth-worship over real people.

Biblically ordered liberty with its emphasis on individual sovereignty and respect for others is moral. But liberalism in any form (progressivism, socialism, social democracy, communism, state capitalism, collectivism, regulationism)—and all other forms of aggressive utopian statism—are forms of tyranny, which is immoral. All forms of nanny statism have at their root the need to control other people by edict rather than by conscience.

“Christian” capitalism is the most moral, leads to the most freedom, promotes the work ethic and self-reliance, encourages responsible behavior, produces the most economic benefits for society, and serves as the foundation for true compassion and a virtuous society. Consider the many hospitals and outreaches to the poor and handicapped that churches run today. They provide charity more efficiently than the federal government, and they do it with heart and personal contact! Statism is inherently cold and inefficient, produces little, takes resources from the productive economy, and is therefore detrimental to growth and the welfare of its people.

History proves that the more that an economy is centrally planned by an elite group of people, the more it suffers. Interference into business by the state or confiscation of profits usually makes it more difficult for both employers and employees to earn success. Its reliance on big government leads to inefficiency of resources while teaching lack of discipline by example—all leading to the spiraling decline of society.

Bottom line? Liberalism is a huge scam. Its failure is open and obvious.

The goal of government healthcare to expand coverage for uninsured people is a noble goal. But like all liberal utopian schemes it ultimately hurts more than it helps. Remember these facts about government involvement in healthcare:

1. It doesn’t reduce the cost. (The only way it could do so is to set prices arbitrarily lower than market prices. Such action always has severe negative consequences by reducing incentives for businesses to provide services. Just like in real estate, if you impose rent controls, developers won’t build apartments.) RomneyCare in Massachusetts proves that interference into healthcare by government greatly increases cost!
2. It doesn’t create more supply. One study showed that 45% of doctors would consider leaving their practice under ObamaCare. We need  more doctors, more hospitals, more new drugs, more nurses—not fewer.
3. It doesn’t improve the quality of healthcare. (Unless 16,000 new IRS agents will produce healthcare services!) 
4. It doesn’t offer the consumer more choice. Less freedom is never the answer; it is the problem.

Government involvement in an industry is a downward spiral to destruction. What would improve the quality, lower the cost, restore patient dignity, give us more freedom and choice, and expand coverage? Answer: 4 C’s of Quality Healthcare–

1. Competition. We could encourage competition by allowing health insurance to be purchased across state lines.
2. Cash. If you take the middle man (insurance companies) out of the equation as much as possible, you obviously lower the cost. Health Savings Accounts are a way to do that.
3. Catastrophic Insurance. Encouraging high deductible insurance will lower the cost of insurance.
4. Charity. Instead of discouraging faith based and professional groups to organize to provide money and services for care, we should encourage it.
